Jazzier Sundays with real Jazz by the Asia Pacific Jazz Ensemble at MLH


The popular Governors Jazz Sunday Brunch at MLH just got jazzier every last Sunday of the month. Sunday, March 25th 2012 from 1100am to 3pm at the Terrace will be upbeat with The Asia Pacific Jazz ensemble, professionals performing in true spirit. What could be better than feasting on delectables from the premier culinary destination and a top notch Jazz Trio at the Iconic heritage hotel! Popular Pianist Eshantha Peiris who after arriving in Sri Lanka has been actively involved in the local music scene. Having grown up in Colombo, Eshantha owes his musical foundations to his teachers Ramya de Livera Perera and Ananda Dabare, and to his involvement with the St. Joseph’s College choir. A talent-development sponsorship from Prima Ceylon Ltd. allowed him to attend New York University’s Steinhardt School from 2003-2008, where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Performance and Composition, studying with Eduardus Halim, Marc Consoli, Mark Adamo and Jim McNeely. Drummer Dr Sumudi Suraweera: aka as Sum has been a performing jazz musician in New Zealand for ten years where he collaborated with various Lankan and Kiwi groups and artists and performed in his own ensembles including the Serendib Sextet and Baliphonics. Double Bassist Isaac Smith: New Zealand born musician and composer with a passion for improvised and creative music who states that the double bass owns him. All three are highly qualified musicians and teachers from Musicmatters (www.musicmatterssrilanka.com) in Colombo and dedicated to music of the most sublime and sensitive nature.

Anura Dewapura states,”we have not forgotten the kids so we have ice carvers in action. Lots of ice cream for the kids and indeed getting a real feel to music whilst enjoying a delicious spread of brunch food.”

Slow food Italian with Chef Riccardo at MLH


Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization with supporters in 150 countries around the world who are linking the pleasure of good food with a commitment to their community and the environment. Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
With a global vision of “envision a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet” slow food is a novel concept to us Sri Lankans, and at MLH, the pioneers of this convivum, is ready to welcome you to this dining experience. March surfaces the 30th slow food night, with Italy in focus featuring Chef Riccardo Rizzoli currently serving as the Executive Chef for Vakarufalhi, the MLHG’s(Mount Lavinia Hotel Group) based in exotic Maldives.
Chef Riccardo a world renowned debonair of delectable Italian cuisine, will be displaying his culinary master skills at “Slow food Italian” which will take place on 31st March at the Horizon roof top from 7pm onwards. Italian cuisine has become famous as one of the richest in the world, noted for its regional diversity and abundance of difference in taste, characterized by its extreme simplicity, relying on the quality of the ingredients rather than on elaborate preparation.
