Mount Lavinia Hotel Celebrates Vesak
Hellen
Keller quoted “Alone we can
do so little; together we can do so much” The staff members of Mount
Lavinia Hotel proved just that when they made this beautiful vesak lantern.
This year instead of the vesak lantern competition, all staff members got
together to make one gigantic yet beautiful lantern.
Mr. Nissanka Mapa, President of the Buddhist
Society of MLH said “Next year we’re hoping to have an even bigger lantern with
discarded material in order to eliminate waste and protect our environment
going full round with the 3R’s – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.”
The lighting of the lamp was done on the 14th
May (Vesak Full Moon Poya Day) by Mr & Mrs Wickramasinghe; a lovely
couple who has made MLH their second home and Dr. Publis Silva.

Mothers hold their child’s hand for a moment and their hearts for a lifetime!
Mount Lavinia Hotel celebrated
Mothers Day in Grand Extravaganza on the 11th May 2014. It was an
afternoon dedicated to all mothers with prizes, surprises and a relaxing time
out at the Terrace with Jazz and Blues from Norma.
Kids enjoyed their Sunday making
cards and doing paintings to present their moms at the “Kiddies Creative
Corner”.

FAULTY TOWERS THE DINING EXPERIENCE RETURNS TO SRI LANKA
This internationally successful
homage to the BBC’s most popular sitcom returns to Mount Lavinia Hotel with
Dialog Enterprise being the platinum sponsor, following a sold-out debut season last year.
It arrives slap bang in the middle of a 20-country tour which this year also
debuts in Malaysia and Iceland. Add to that performances at the UK’s Royal
Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House, all the major arts festivals, and an ongoing
residency in London's West End, and you’ll see why this return to Sri Lanka is
most welcome indeed.
With
Basil, Sybil and Manuel on hand and only a third of the show scripted, anything
can happen as audiences take a seat in the 'Fawlty Towers' restaurant… On the
menu: all the best gags, shambolic service, and a ‘70s style 3-course meal in
‘a hilarious battle of wits, patience, fire extinguishers and fine food’ (Australian
Traveller, Sydney Opera House 2013). This is fully immersive, site-specific
comedy theatre at its best – just don’t mention the war! Internationally
acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.
- ‘uproariously funny’ (Rip It Up, Adelaide Fringe 2014)
- ‘food snortingly funny’ (Australian Stage, FringeWorld Perth 2014)

- ‘the most exciting,
pacy and disciplined piece of improv theatre to be seen… outstanding!’
(FringeReview,
Edinburgh Fringe 2013)
Born in Brisbane in 1997, Faulty Towers
The Dining Experience is now performed around the world pretty much non-stop.
At the same time, it maintains a residency in the heart of London’s West End
theatre land. The cast for Sri Lanka features: Karen Hamilton as Sybil, Jordan
Edmeades as Basil, and Geoffrey Reczek as Manuel. Cast bios are on the Actors
page at www.interactivetheatre.com.au
- ‘had us in stitches!’ (BBC Radio
Five Live, UK tour 2013)
- ‘rip-roaringly hilarious’ (This Is London)

Note to editors:
Faulty Towers The Dining Experience is
an affectionate homage to Fawlty Towers the TV series written by John Cleese
and Connie Booth. Their original TV scripts are not used in Faulty Towers The
Dining Experience. Artistic director and show originator Alison
Pollard-Mansergh adds:
‘Faulty is spelled that way because when I started the show in 1997, John Cleese, Prunella Scales and Andrew Sachs were still young enough to perform the roles. I didn’t want people to think they were getting the original, so I spelled it differently. Happily, both they and the BBC are aware of what we are doing, and we work with the BBC a lot.’
