To celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Beetles in Sri Lanka Herbie goes Bananas at the Mount

This year is a very special year for Volkswagens in Sri Lanka as it was 60years ago that the first consignment of VW Beetles were introduced to the driving public of Ceylon which began the “wave” of “Beetle mania” having won the hearts of over 3500 “Happy Homes” within a span of 7 years prior to the restriction era that came into effect in the early sixties. As Beetles across the globe celebrated World Volkswagen Day last week, in honour of the day and further attaining Diamond Jubilee status, The Volkswagen Beetle Owners Club(VBOC) having a membership of over two hundred and fifty, have partnered with Mount Lavinia Hotel for a “Bug drive” of jubilation.

MLH have been in partnership with the VBOC, for the 3rd consecutive year to highlight the only car with an international significance and indeed a national day. Thanks to its “curvy bug like” looks, the Beetle has created a sense of “joy” to the many generations of owners who have included the family car as a member of the family which may be the factor of the World dedicating a “day” for the diminutive bug that is celebrated around the Globe.

The “Diamond Jubilee of Volkswagen in Sri Lanka” in keeping to the 60 years of loyal service this little car has rendered to its owners will take off on a jubilation drive on the evening of Sunday, the 7th of July from Colombo and will make way to the grand finale at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.

The celebration does not end there as Mount Lavinia Hotel will kick start a promotion called Herbie goes Bananas at Mount. The promotion will begin on 8th and end on 13th July where an all day banana menu awaits you. The menu includes an a la carte menu with:
Lavinia Style Red Banana and Spicy Prawn Salad
Crispy Sour Banana and Coriander Chicken Salad

Mixed Seafood and Banana Gratin Served in Banana Blossom with buttered Vegetable and Steamed Rice
Seared Lamb Rump Served Over Cuban Banana Mofongo with Chimichurri Sauce

Caribbean-Style Bananas with Vanilla Scoop
Banana Pie with Malibu Sauce

And much more….
The highlight of the day would be the showing off of the ole classics in all ages and colours at the hotel courtyard. The classics will show off the rough and tumble of the car and indeed the owners pride, from 8pm to 9pm each night till the 13th July. So come and go Bananas over the bugs.

If you have a Beetle and would love to participate. Please contact the Beetle Club Secretary Mr. Nalin S Perera on 0770333444 for further information on registering for the event.

Seafood Cove by the coast of Mount Lavinia is more than just a fresh seafood restaurant it is an experience

What a better experience than the roar of crashing waves and strong breezes fill the open-air restaurant as steady crowds feast on delicious shrimp and crab legs,” says Christianne Labrooy, a regular guest at the Seafood Cove.

A fabulous selection of fine seafood freshly caught and prepared to your desire and a wine guide to find the perfect wine to complement your meal. The rustic environment, the backdrop of fishermen’s nets and lanterns amidst laid out planks for tables, the rush of the ocean and the cool sea breeze create a soft harmony in ocean magic.

The Seafood Cove at the Mount Lavinia Hotel steaming with Steam Pots of ocean food with Crabs and prawns, shellfish to whet your appetite made sizzling fresh by experts surrounded by the ambience of a subtle fishing zone, is an experience one should not keep for later. Seafood Cove has maintained a simple, rustic decor with an emphasis on the “by the ocean” theme. The beach and the ocean are the focus of the casual eatery with a view of the water from every seat.

It's the kind of place where you can see the tide moving in and out through some gaps in the decking. It's also the kind of place you'll see beach goers are allowed to sit at one of the tables and enjoy a meal in their bathing suits.
