If there is one hotel that can boast about being
part of pre-independence and post-independence Sri Lanka, it is none other than
the Mount Lavinia Hotel.
Built by one of the British Governor’s in Ceylon,
Sir Thomas Maitland, it was within the same halls of this building that the
Kandyan intrigue with the involvement of Ehelepola Adigar and John D’Oyly came
into being with the then Governor Sir Robert Brownrigg. Transforming from a
Governor’s Residence, to a military hospital during World War II, and subsequently
to a hotel under local and international ownership, Mount Lavinia Hotel has not
only taken a part of shaping Sri Lanka’s history but also been a part of world
history.
With the dawn of Independence until present, the
hotel has opened its doors to patrons from around the world. Its signature
being colonial heritage blended with true Sri Lankan hospitality.
This
Independence Day, Mount Lavinia Hotel offers a taste of true Sri Lankan cuisine
with the special lunch buffet, Ape Kema. Prepared by Culinary Expert Chef
Publis, the icon for authentic Sri Lankan food, Ape Kema will feature a variety
of dishes including Beef Dummassa, Kompittu, Pork Ambula, Polos Kadala Curry, Mutton
Chatti Roast, Bath Rasa Gulawa, Habalapethi Pudding, Waraka Gini Sisila (Flambe)
and much more.
Reminisce the passage of history that brought
independence as you celebrate Sri Lanka as you savour the
delicious Sri Lankan dishes with just the right spices and aroma, surrounded by
the colonial legacy left behind from the pre-independence era.
